Unheated Tanzanite TZ101R
Unheated Tanzanite
Tanzanite’s renown has skyrocketed in the world of collectors in recent years for its rarity, singular locality, and its rivalry to Sapphire. An exceptionally piece for all collectors, Tanzanite is at least a thousand more times more rare than diamonds!
Found only in a 2km-by-4km area at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in the Manyara Region of Northern Tanzania; Tanzanite was formed 585 million years ago, discovered in 1967, and the rush to acquire a unique piece of Mother Earth began. Gemologists believe that Tanzanite mining will be depleted within the next 10-20 years; Tanzanite is known as the “gemstone of a generation” because this generation will be the last one able to buy stones from the primary market before the supply is exhausted.
Almost all available Tanzanite in the market has been heat-treated to remove the brown tint and enhance the violet-blue hues, so unheated specimens that show more than blue and violet hues are exceedingly rare.
Being one of the few stones in the world to exhibit pleochroism, Tanzanite appears in different shades and colours when viewed from different angles. With a plethora of colours ranging from blue, violet, green, to red, pink, yellow, unheated Tanzanite is captivating in its natural state, and should be in serious consideration for collectors looking to elevate their collection.
An ideal piece for wire-wrapping, Tanzanite should be kept away from extreme heat and swimming pools (due to the presence of chlorine). Care is required as Tanzanite is a delicate stone, and a toothbrush with warm, soapy water is all that’s needed for cleaning and maintenance.
